Cyclists Invited To Inaugural Ride On Stevens Creek Trail Detour

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – News from the City of Mountain View:

Construction of the temporary Stevens Creek Trail detour is completed and is now open to the public for daily use. To commemorate the event, Mountain View City Councilmembers and City staff will be leading any interested cyclists for an inaugural ride over the new path at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 9.

Interested members of the public should meet up at trailhead at the 200-block of El Camino Real just after the parking lot entrance to Hotel Zico and Extended Stay America.

Stevens Creek Trail, which is a popular trail for both pedestrians and cyclists for commuting and recreating, is a five-mile, all-weather, paved trail that spans from the San Francisco Bay in Mountain View’s Shoreline Regional Park to south of El Camino Real.

For safety reasons, a segment of the trail was closed in January when the creek bank eroded taking sections of the trail with it from the heavy winter rains.

While the Santa Clara Valley Water District assesses the damage and requirements for permanent repairs, Extended Stay America has given the City a temporary easement to divert the trail around the eroded segment, allowing residents to continue to use the trail until the permanent creek bank and trail restoration is completed.
