Elderly Woman Struck On El Camino Real Dies From Injuries

The 84-year-old was walking with her husband on a sidewalk when she was hit by a car pulling out of a parking lot, police say.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — A pedestrian who was hit by a car late last week in Sunnyvale has since died from the injuries she suffered, police said Tuesday. Peiqiu Zhangon, 84, was struck at about 3:30 p.m. Friday while walking with her husband on a sidewalk in the area of 1165 W. El Camino Real, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. Shawn Ahearn said.

Police and fire personnel responded to find that a 64-year-old man was driving out of the parking lot when his vehicle struck Zhangon, Ahearn said.

Zhangon was taken to a local trauma center where she later died, Ahearn said Tuesday.

Sunnyvale DPS is investigating the collision and has not determined a cause.

"The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating in the investigation," Ahearn said.
