Bicyclist, 55, Killed In Sunnyvale Crash With Semi
Witnesses to the major collision are asked to call police.

SUNNYVALE, CA – A 55-year-old man riding his bicycle died this morning after colliding with a big-rig in Sunnyvale, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Capt. Shawn Ahearn said that at 6:50 a.m. officers and fire personnel responded to a report of a major injury collision on Caribbean Drive and Borregas Avenue.
Arriving personnel found the bicyclist down in the roadway. While life-saving medical efforts were administered, he did not survive, according to Ahearn.

The driver of the big-rig, a 46-year-old man, is cooperating with investigators. Investigators don't believe that drugs or alcohol were involved in the collision, Ahearn said.
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety's Accident Investigation Team is continuing to figure out the details of the collision, including what caused it.

The bicyclist's identity has not yet been confirmed by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

A bicyclist was killed this morning after a collision involving a big-rig in Sunnyvale, a Department of Public Safety spokesman said.
The collision was reported shortly after 7 a.m. on Caribbean Drive between Borregas Avenue and Geneva Drive, Capt. Shawn Ahearn said.
Ahearn said that he does not have any information yet on the bicyclist's identity, gender or age.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries in the collision.
The Department of Public Safety's Accident Investigation Team will be surveying the scene for the next few hours, Ahearn said.
All westbound lanes on Caribbean Drive near the scene of the collision will be closed during that time, and there is no exact estimate for when the lanes will open back up, according to Ahearn.

A fatal collision this morning in Sunnyvale has closed westbound lanes on a portion of Caribbean Drive between Borregas Avenue and Geneva Drive, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Police said the closure will last until approximately 10 a.m., and drivers are asked to use alternative routes.
The major collision was reported about 7:22 a.m. Initially lanes in both directions were closed.
