"She was found hiding in a nearby bush by the school," Sheriff's Det. Sal Zuno told Patch. "We were out there looking for her ... and I think seeing our cars scared her more. ... Fortunately, she was wearing a bright jacket."

Zuno said sheriff's officials were speaking with the girl to confirm everything is alright, and that they're going to talk with her so she knows there are better ways of handling these situations than running away.

FRIDAY, DEC. 9, 11 a.m.

San Mateo County authorities are searching for a young girl this morning who was last seen in San Mateo around 8 a.m.

She was last spotted at Eichler Highland School at 2320 Newport Street in San Mateo, according to authorities.

"Just before being dropped off at her school in San Mateo, she was having a discussion with her mom and she ran out of the car," sheriff's Det. Sal Zuno told Patch. "We're searching anywhere she can be."

The Hispanic girl, whose first name is Angelina, was carrying a pink backpack with doughnuts, police say.

She's wearing a pink sweater, white shirt and jeans. The attached photo shows what she was wearing today, along with a close-up of her face.

Since the girl ran away on her own accord, authorities don't believe it's a "suspicious" case, but are concerned for her well-being and hoping the public will call if they spot her.

"IF SEEN CALL County Dispatch (650) 363-4911," San Mateo County officials said.
