The first time I walked down the sand and touched the Pacific Ocean at age 7, I was hooked. What was your first impression of the ocean? Do you remember the first time you smelled, touched or tasted the sea? I remember swimming in the foam, hearing the waves crash and the bright sunlight sparkling against an endless horizon. These impressions remain, but in my lifetime I have experienced and learned how important the ocean is to our lives.
The ocean is present in our every moment and the health of the ocean is intricately bonded to the health of humanity.

About World Oceans Day
Officially held on June 8th of each year – is an opportunity to celebrate our world ocean and our personal connection to the sea. World Oceans Day, which had been unofficially celebrated every 8 June since its original proposal in 1992 by Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008.
We can help make others more aware of the importance of the world’s ocean in their daily lives by showing them ways to improve their impact on the ocean by, for example, reducing plastics use, and limiting CO2 emissions. In joining with thousands of people all over the world in celebrating World Oceans Day, we can make a real difference for our oceans of life!
