Listen UP! Hands-Only CPR

What’s easy to do, can save a life and only 100 beats per minute?

If you guessed Hands only CPR, then you win the prize– a hot mashup from DJ Earworm of songs guaranteed to satisfy everyone’s musical taste. And, all of them at 100 beats per minute, the precise tempo that’s perfect for effective CPR.

I caught up with DJ Earworm, known for his United State of Pop the other day and we talked about why he decided to create this fantastic mashup for the American Heart Association.

We both have had experiencing performing CPR and as he said, there’s that moment, when you see that someone needs help, but you’re a little panicked trying to remember what to do. And, there are some people who decide not to do anything for fear of doing something wrong.

You can listen to it here.

This compilation of powerhourse songs is meant to encourage people to act if a strangers or someone they love collapses from cardiac arrest. It was inspired by the Bee Gee’s classic “Stayin’ Alive” which has more than 100 beats per minute, which is the rate at which you perfom Hands-Only CPR.

Why is this important?

Four-out-of-five cardiac emergencies happen in private or residential settings which means if you’re called to perform Hands-Only CPR, you’ll most likely be trying to save the life of someone you know and love - a spouse, parent or friend.

Luckily, it only takes 60 seconds to learn Hands-Only CPR in two easy steps:

Here’s what DJ Earworm and the American Heart Association also want you to remember:

  • When CPR is administered it can double or triple a person’s chance for survival
  • Even if you’re hesitant, the right action is ALWAYS to TAKE ACTION
  • There’s a good chance you’ll save someone’s life

Beyonce? JAY Z?

I’m listening right now. You’ll find Beyonce, JAY Z, Taylor Swift, Shakira, Ben Lee, Justin Timberlake, McFadden & Whitehead and many, many more.   As I listen to this mashup, I’ve got my hands together pushing down into space. It works!

It’s fun to practice and I can remember to keep up to the tempo. Here’s what I know from the ICU, practice, practice and practice, that way, if you ever have to use these skills, they’ll be more automatic.

For more information you can go to the American Heart Association website.
