Nevada Man Dies After Crashing Stolen Motorcycle In Mountain View

Breaking: The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has identified the man who crashed a motorcycle into a tree Saturday and died.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- A man from western Nevada who died when he crashed a stolen motorcycle in Mountain View early Saturday morning has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as 29-year-old John Conlon.

Conlon, who was from the rural Lyon County community of Stagecoach, Nevada, hit a tree on the motorcycle, which police later found had been stolen from a home in the 100 block of Calderon Avenue in Old
Mountain View but had gone unreported.

The crash took place after police responding to a report of two people tampering with cars in the 200 block of East Dana Street saw the motorcycle leaving northbound Moorpark Way and tried to stop it.

Although the officer turned on his red lights, Conlon accelerated to around 70 mph and drove away, police said.

The officer did not pursue Conlon and turned off his lights and siren, and then saw sparks in the road near where Conlon was last seen.

The officer drove to the area and saw that Conlon had crashed into a tree. He was lying about 40 feet from the motorcycle, police said.

Several other officers arrived and performed CPR on Conlon. He was taken to Stanford University Medical Center, where he died.
