Plaza De Rey Park's pools closed by the Health Dept

The County Health Dept. closed the pools and spas in the Plaza Del Rey Mobilehome Park on July 1st. This isn’t the first time the Health Dept has closed the pools. Hometown America says it’s the residents fault because they aren’t wearing proper swim suits and bringing food into the pool areas. This may be true of some pool users, however, the inspector cited a lack of proper maintenance and of proper use of the pump and filtering equipment. According to a resident who spoke with the inspector, the pumps and filters weren’t even running.

Why is Hometown America not turning on the filtering equipment and contracting with a professional pool cleaning and maintenance company to ensure the health and safety of its residents and preserving the availability of popular amenities? Because in 2021 Plaza Del Rey residents lead a successful campaign that curtailed skyrocketing space rents by obtaining a Rent Stabilization MOU between the City of Sunnyvale and (a total of nine) Mobilehome Park Owners.

In retaliation, Hometown America has curtailed their efforts in maintaining the Park. While not in violation of the MOU, it could be in violation of the State’s Mobilehome Residency Law. Hometown America knows that enforcing the Residency Law against them is virtually impossible, so they pocket our space rent monies and then don’t take responsible efforts to maintain the amenities those space rents pay for.
