Public Input Sought: Environmental Impacts Of Growing Mtn. View

Give your two cents on how to improve sustainability and reduce carbon emissions in these booming times.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – The City of Mountain View’s Environmental and Sustainability Task Force will seek public input on how to ease the environmental impact of the growing municipality at City Hall's session on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Members of the public are encouraged to share innovative ideas at the meeting from 6: 30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 500 Castro St. in the building's Conference Room.

"With recent approvals of development plans that may quickly increase the overall housing supply and even more housing proposals on the way, Mountain View has the potential to grow as much as 35 percent in the next 12 years," city officials said. "At a current population of almost 80,000, the ESTF projects that the City of Mountain View may grow to more than 100,000 within the next decade based on increased housing supply plans.

"To address potential environmental impacts, the City formed its second ESTF in 2017 to analyze current sustainability efforts and make recommendations to Council about how Mountain View can achieve its carbon reduction goals for 2020, 2025 and 2030.

"The Task Force is seeking innovative and actionable ideas from the community to improve environmental sustainability and reduce carbon emissions in the City."

The event is open to anyone who lives, works, attends school, owns a business or is connected to Mountain View. Light refreshments will be provided, as well as Spanish, Russian and Mandarin translation.
