Santa Clara Man Arrested In Fatal Hit-And-Run

Alexander Montes, 33, was arrested at his home Thursday afternoon.

SUNNYVALE, CA -- A San Jose man has been arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Sunnyvale March 1, according to public safety personnel. Alexander Montes, 33, was arrested at his home Thursday afternoon.

Police said he was at the wheel of a vehicle that struck 61-year-old Elida Garcia on El Camino Real at Maria Lane. She was found face-down in the roadway and officers responded to the scene around 11:15 p.m.

Garcia was transported to a hospital with major injuries but she did not survive.

Montes was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.
