Eclipse Puts Spotlight on Mountain View Girl

Sunday's rare annular eclipse over the Bay Area provided just the right lighting

While throngs of curious people lined up at public viewing spots like Foothill College Observatory to see Sunday’s rare annular solar eclipse over the Bay Area, one Mountain View family enjoyed the show without even leaving home.

Just as the moon’s movement began to eclipse direct sunlight late Sunday afternoon, 14-year-old Amy Lynch was ready to strike a pose.

With her mother Penny standing ready with a camera, Amy turned her profile to the wall of her house as a pattern of bright sunlit crescents filtered through a nearby tree onto her face and the lightly-colored wall.
