Suspect Sought In Mountain View Carjacking, Shooting: Police

Breaking: Officers searched for the suspect but were not able to locate him, according to a Mountain View Police Department statement.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- Police are hoping that members of the public can help identify a man suspected in an alleged carjacking last week in a Mountain View neighborhood.

Mountain police say the incident involving the yet-to-be-identified man began at about 7:25 p.m. Thursday, June 22 when officers were responding to reports of a shooting at Bailey Plaza Liquors, near Safeway in the 500 block of N. Shoreline Blvd. As they were en route to the scene, officers were notified that an armed carjacking had just taken place down the road from the store at Montecito and San Pierre avenues, in the Rex Manor neighborhood.

Officers learned that two men had gotten into an argument near the liquor store, and that at some point, one of the men, who police were not able to immediately identify, began to retreat into the store and the suspect, who was in his vehicle, fired one shot from a gun and sped away, according to a police statement.

"Fortunately, no one was hit by the gunfire," police said in the statement.

The shooting suspect drove westbound on Montecito, where police say he stopped and got out of his car, then approached a man in a Honda CRZ.

"The suspect forced that man out of the Honda and drove away from the area," police said. "We immediately began searching for the suspect after ensuring that the gentleman was OK."

The Honda was located less than 30 minutes later in the 1500 block of California Street. The car was left unoccupied in a traffic lane, according to police.

Officers searched the area for the suspect but were not able to locate him.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his early- to mid-30s who is roughly 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. The suspect had stubble on his face and was described as having a tattoo of unknown design on the left side of his neck. He was last seen wearing a light-gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Police urged anyone with information regarding the investigation was to contact Detective Dan Garcia at 650-903-6624 and reference case numbers 17-03992 and 17-03995.
