Breaking: Santa Clara police expected traffic congestion to begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Hwys 101, 237, 880 and other major roadways.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- With the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association of Football's 2017 Gold Cup Finals taking place at Levi's Stadium Wednesday night in Santa Clara, police say heavy traffic and delays are to be expected on major thoroughfares leading to and from the stadium, including Highway 101, Highway 237, Highway 880, Lawrence Expressway, Great America Parkway and San Tomas Expressway.
An estimated 55,000 are expected to attend the event set for 6:30 p.m.; Santa Clara police are anticipating traffic congestion to begin around 1:30 p.m. when parking lots open. Local residents should allow additional time for travel and may consider taking alternate routes to and from their homes, police said.
"Law enforcement is unable to implement counterflow for this event," said Santa Clara police Lt. Dan Moreno. "As a result, major traffic delays are expected at the conclusion of this event."

No parking is allowed Wednesday on Tasman or on a clearly marked and posted section of Lick Mill Boulevard.
The city of Santa Clara Traffic Engineering Department has made traffic cameras available to help individuals make travel decisions based on road conditions, Moreno said.
