Two Special Speakers Coming To Insight Meditation South Bay

A Benefit Evening with Ajahn Brahm and "Effortless Mindfulness" with author Lisa Dale Miller.

Insight Meditation South Bay is pleased to announce: An Evening with Ajahn Brahm - renowned author, speaker, and Buddhist contemplative, on Tuesday February 24, 2015, 7:00 - 9:00 pm in Mountain View.

Ajahn Brahm’s winning combination of wit and wisdom makes his books bestsellers in many languages, and his teaching sought after by anyone who appreciates humor, wisdom, and profound stories.

His teaching tours regularly draw multinational audiences by the thousands. Buddhist supporters and scholars will be interested in his unique and unparalleled support for the revival of women’s full ordination in Buddhism in traditions where it has been lost.

This evening is a benefit event for the Dhammadharini Sangha, the first Bhikkhuni Sangha of the Theravadin forest traditions in North America, and one of the few places in the West where women can train and fully ordain within the type of monastic life and ordination established by the Buddha more than 2500 years ago. This benefit will help support this fledgling monastic community establish its long-wished-for permanent bhikkhuni monastery.

This evening will include sitting meditation and teachings by the Venerable Ajahn Brahm. Book signing may also be available. Event is by donation. No registration is needed.

Ajahn Brahm, a monk for more than 35 years, is a revered spiritual guide and the abbot of Bodhinyana Monastery, in Serpentine, Western Australia—one of the largest monasteries in the southern hemisphere. He is also the Spiritual Director of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia, and spiritual adviser and inspiration for Buddhist centers throughout Asia and Australia.

Insight Meditation South Bay is pleased to announce an evening talk with Lisa Dale Miller, author of Effortless Mindfulness: Genuine Mental Health Through Awakened Presence,on Tuesday March 3, 2015, 7:30 - 9:00pm in Mountain View.

Now, more and more, the scientific and psychological community is verifying what meditators have known for thousands of years—mindfulness is good for mental, physical, and emotional health.

Lisa Dale Miller’s book explores how Buddhist teachings can be applied to mental health through the direct experience of awakened presence. It is an effortlessly embodied, fearless understanding of and interaction with the way things truly are. Lisa will share her discoveries on March 3rd in Mountain View. The evening will include a talk and a reception.
