$20K In Stolen Products Recovered In Cross-County Organized Theft Scheme

A cross-county retail theft operation that took place in Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles counties led to the arrest of three women.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Riverside County Sheriff's Department arrested three women this week after recovering a plethora of beauty supplies, marijuana, clothing, vape products, and cash during an organized retail crime arrest, officials say.

Janely Masvidal, 45, and Briana Monique Marin, 29, both of Los Angeles, were arrested in Buena Park on Wednesday and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of grand theft, organized retail theft, burglary, and conspiracy, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

A third woman, Clementina Peralta, 56, of Buena Park, was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of possession of stolen property, according to Sgt. Kevin Mahoney.

On Jan. 22, Perris station deputies responded to a report of a large-scale theft of beauty products in the 1600 block of North Perris Boulevard in Perris.

A preliminary investigation determined the suspects allegedly stole about $20,000 in merchandise taken from retail stores in Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles counties.

Marin and Masvidal were located on Wednesday in the 7900 block of Beach Boulevard in Buena Park, where investigators identified a location where the stolen merchandise was being stored, authorities said.

Both were taken into custody without incident.

"A search warrant was served the following day at the Buena Park location, where deputies recovered thousands of dollars' worth of suspected stolen clothing, beauty products, marijuana vape products and several pounds of processed marijuana, along with a large amount of U.S. currency," Mahoney said.

Masvidal was being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility and was due to appear in court on Friday at the Murrieta Southwest Justice Center. Marin was being held at the Southwest Detention Center and awaiting her court date on April 29 at the Murrieta Southwest Justice Center. Peralta was being held at the Southwest Detention Center and was due to appear in court on March 16 at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

The investigation was ongoing, and anyone with additional information about the thefts was asked to call 951-210-1000.
