The neighborhood near the 33200 block of Taylor Street was temporarily evacuated due to the leak.
WINCHESTER, CA — A Winchester neighborhood was temporarily evacuated due to a gas leak in the area of Taylor Street and Whittier Avenue, the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department reported Wednesday.
Shortly before 3 p.m., a gas line rupture on a Winchester street on Wednesday prompted evacuations of surrounding properties in the 33200 block of Taylor Street, near Whittier Avenue.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and discovered that an underground gas line had been breached. The exact cause of the damage was not immediately shared.
Three homes were evacuated as a precaution, displacing four people, according to officials at the scene.
Sheriff's deputies also shut down Taylor between Whittier and Winchester Road for public safety.
SoCal Gas Co. technicians were summoned to secure the line and make repairs, which were expected to be finished before nightfall.
