MURRIETA, CA — The Vineyard Place Anthem Memory Care center, together with students from Temescal Canyon High School, shared the spotlight this week in the 3rd annual Senior Prom.

On Thursday, students and seniors gathered at Vineyard Place at 24325 Washington Avenue for an afternoon of music, movement and intergenerational connection, as shared by Christopher Balmes, life engagement director for Vineyard Place.

Event staff decked out the room in Hollywood glamour, complete with sparkling backdrops, decor, and dance floor. The attendees were dressed to the nines, as were the 20 teens from Temescal Canyon High School, led by Tracy Ward, who joined the residents in the dance.

The event was full of sights, sounds, tasty treats, and music ranging from hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s, including the Village People's "YMCA" and Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode," all of which were played live by the Memory Lane Band.

Resident Eugene McCabe detailed how the event "brought back his college prom memories and reminded him of the excitement of those special moments."

Meanwhile, Temescal Canyon student Olivia Pinedo said she found the prom "deeply personal," as connecting with residents reminded her of her grandparents and created heartfelt moments.

"The conversations and shared moments created a heartfelt bridge between past and present," Olivia said.

Vineyard Place residents now look forward to their annual prom, said Balmes.

"One of the most exciting moments of the afternoon was the crowning of our Prom King 2026, Donald Burton, and Prom Queen 2026, Karen Mathison," he shared. "The room filled with cheers as they were announced, both looking elegant and full of joy."

This prom is about creating genuine moments of joy and connection for our residents, according to Balmes. "When the two generations come together, it creates a shared experience filled with energy, laughter and meaningful interaction."
