5 Things to Know in Murrieta: May 29

The Murrieta Public Library, along with the Murrieta Chinese Language and Cultural Academy and Triwon Global, is holding a Mommy and Me activity today.

1. It will be another hot one, according to the National Weather Service.  Today will be mostly sunny with a high nearing 80.  Tonight patchy fog is expected after 11 p.m., increasing clouds and a low nearing 51.

2. Every Tuesday at 11 a.m. presents the "Crybaby Matinee." Relax and enjoy a movie without worrying about unexpected tantrums or feedings in the dark; they keep the lights dimmed and the sound volume down. Baby-changing tables and stroller valet are also provided for the convenience of our parents. Showing today: “Dark Shadows” (PG-13), a comedy fantasy starring Johnny Depp.

3. Here's what's for lunch today at elementary schools in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District: a corn dog. Lunches are served with a fresh fruit/salad bar and a choice of juice or milk. Lunches average about 658 calories and 16.29 percent fat. To see middle and high school menus, click here.

4. The along with the Murrieta Chinese Language and Cultural Academy and Triwon Global, is hosting a Mommy and Me activity designed to introduce children ages 3 to 6 to Chinese language and culture through formal lessons, art, music. and dance. From noon to 1 p.m., the class will be held in the Library’s Community Room. Get there early; tickets will be handed out 30 minutes prior to the event.

5. Animal Friends of the Valleys is giving proud pet parents the chance the show off their furry friends in the 2013 Calendar Contest. Picture entries are being accepted through July 31, 2012. Each submission requires a $10 donation, which benefits the homeless animals at AFV. Sponsorships in the form of business card size ads are also available.
