MENIFEE, CA — An early morning gas leak has led to a massive road closure in Menifee, city officials say. It will be "hours" before the repairs are fully completed, they said.
At 5:49 a.m., a gas line coming from the back of the Better Buzz Coffee Shop in Menifee experienced a gas leak, a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson said. The shopping center and the coffee shop were evacuated as officials waited for SoCalGas to begin repairs.
Menifee Police Officers blocked Northbound Haun Road at Marketplace for the duration of the incident, according to a statement from that agency. "Additionally, portions of the parking lot and the immediate surrounding area are closed off until the gas company corrects the issue," they said.
As of 9 a.m., one northbound lane on Haun Road has been reopened. Some businesses are expected to be without gas for the next few hours while repairs are completed.
