Some Riverside County Residents Eligible For Property Tax Relief Under Prop. 8

Find out if the law applies to you.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Does your property tax bill seem out of whack? Specifically, do you believe your property’s market value has declined below its assessed value?

If yes, you can "Request a Review." Under Proposition 8, property values may be temporarily reduced when the current market value falls below the assessed value. Reductions, when enacted, reduce property tax bills.

The Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder's office reviews market conditions each year to determine where adjustments are warranted under Prop. 8, but "for property owners who believe their value needs additional review, the Request for Review provides a direct way for us to take a closer look," said Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder Peter Aldana.

Property owners are encouraged to submit a Request for Review by May 15, to allow time for consideration prior to the close of the assessment roll. Requests may still be submitted after that date, up to the November 1 deadline, but may be reviewed after the roll is finalized.

The Request for Review is an informal process with no filing fee. Property owners may submit supporting information, such as recent comparable sales, to assist in the review, according to the assessor's office.

Property owners should visit the ACR website and select the Proposition 8 Request for Review page to submit a request or learn more about eligibility and the review process.
