Grass Fire Burns Near Diamond Valley Lake In Winchester

WINCHESTER, CA — A grass fire that erupted Tuesday southwest of Diamond Valley Lake in Winchester charred roughly an acre before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Ashford Lane and Scott Road, about a mile from the lake and less a half-mile west of Highway 79, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a moderate rate amid light winds through dry grass.

No homes or other structures were threatened.

Firefighters established hose lays in minutes and got in front of the blaze, stopping its progress by 5:15 p.m.

The burn zone was completely encircled 10 minutes later.

No road closures were required.
