How have they made an impact?

My husband is a dedicated PE teacher at Dorothy McElhinney Middle School. People often say, “It’s just PE,” but for him and his students, it is so much more than that.

Every year, he inspires students to discover strengths and abilities they didn’t realize they had. He encourages each student to set personal fitness goals and equips them with the support, motivation, and tools needed to achieve them.

The impact he has on his students is evident in the heartfelt letters he receives. Many thank him for giving them the confidence to try out for a high school sport or for encouraging them to beat a personal record they once believed was impossible. Parents frequently reach out to share that PE has become the highlight of their child’s school day because of the positive and motivating environment he creates.

Through his dedication, encouragement, and genuine belief in his students, he teaches lessons that go far beyond physical fitness — he helps students build confidence, perseverance, and pride in themselves.
