MURRIETA, CA — A 28-year-old man allegedly connected to a felony assault on an Orange County Sheriff's Deputy was arrested in Murrieta Sunday after allegedly leading officers on a pursuit.
Officers from the Murrieta Police Department responded to a Flock Safety alert for a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a Walmart store at 41200 Murrieta Hot Springs Road around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Responding officers approached the vehicle but the driver, later identified as Dino Groffo, allegedly drove out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed, prompting a pursuit that continued into the area of Hayes Avenue and De Luz Road, where Groffo allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a dirt embankment, the Murrieta PD announced.
Groffo allegedly ran from the vehicle and fled into thick brush but officers quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. He was later located and arrested with assistance from Riverside County Sheriff's K-9 teams and Murrieta Police Unmanned Aerial Systems Team.
He was allegedly connected to a felony assault on an Orange County Sheriff's Deputy and was wanted on several felony warrants, details about which were not immediately available, the Murrieta PD stated.
Groffo was subsequently booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of felony evading, resisting arrest, probation violation and felony warrants.
No police personnel were injured during the incident.
