Murrieta Fire & Rescue Announces Renewed Safety Rating

MURRIETA, CA — Murrieta Fire & Rescue is celebrating three major achievements that strengthen community safety, wildfire preparedness, and emergency response capabilities throughout the city.

The department has earned an Insurance Services Office Public Protection Classification of ISO Class-2, improving from its previous ISO Class-3 rating.

"The city has also renewed its designation as a Fire Risk Reduction Community through the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, and the Bear Creek community has been recognized as Murrieta's second Firewise USA community, joining The Knolls in earning this national recognition," spokesperson Dawn Morrison said in a recent news release. "The upgraded ISO-2 rating reflects Murrieta Fire & Rescue’s continued investment in firefighter training, emergency communications, response capabilities, water infrastructure, and community risk reduction programs."

ISO ratings are used by many insurance providers as one of several factors in evaluating a community's fire protection capabilities and may positively influence property insurance premiums for some residential and commercial property owners.

Only a small percentage of fire departments nationwide earn an ISO Public Protection Classification of 2 or better, making this achievement a significant recognition of Murrieta's commitment to delivering exceptional fire protection and emergency services.

Fire Chief Bernard Molloy released a statement

"Achieving an improved ISO Public Protection Classification reflects our department's unwavering commitment to protecting the Murrieta community," Molloy said. "This recognition belongs to everyone who has helped make public safety a priority, from our firefighters and professional staff to our city leadership and community partners. Together, we have built a fire protection system that our residents can trust today and for years to come."

In addition to the improved ISO rating, the City of Murrieta has renewed its designation as a Fire Risk Reduction Community.

"The designation recognizes the City's continued commitment to reducing fire risk through proactive planning, public education, code enforcement, vegetation management, and community preparedness initiatives," Morrison said. "Murrieta Fire & Rescue is also celebrating Bear Creek's designation as a Firewise USA community."
