Diamond Valley Lake Blaze Scorches Over 60 Acres

WINCHESTER, CA — A brush fire that broke out Thursday on the south end of Hemet near Diamond Valley Lake charred over 60 acres before crews established tentative containment lines.

The non-injury blaze was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday in the area of Domenigoni and Searl parkways, according to the Hemet Fire Department.

The agency's engine crews were supplemented by multiple crews from the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, as well as at least one Cal Fire water- dropping helicopter.

The brusher expanded in open space about a mile northeast of the lake before firefighters established hose lays and, with the help of bulldozer operators, began encircling the brusher, according to reports from the scene.

No residences were threatened.

The fire was concentrated in an area surrounded by paved roads, acting as breaks.

As of 2:25 p.m., crews were making steady progress, with full containment expected by 4 p.m.

There was no word on what might have triggered the blaze.
