MURRIETA, CA — Murrieta Fire & Rescue added a new state-of-the-art extrication tool to help improve rescue efforts and provide faster medical care.
The department added a Hurst extractor, commonly known as "the Jaws of Life," a powerful hydraulic or battery-powered rescue tool used by emergency responders. The tool enables firefighters to quickly remove vehicle doors, roofs, and other obstacles, helping them to reach trapped patients quicker.
Officials said their extraction tool differs from hydraulic systems because the battery-powered extrication tool provide greater mobility, can be deployed faster, and is more efficient for firefighters in challenging environments.
The machinery was funded by California Office of Traffic Safety.
