RIVERSIDE, CA — Authorities Monday were continuing to investigate the weekend death of a 57-year-old man who apparently jumped off Interstate 215 in Riverside.

The lifeless body of Riverside resident Eric Knehans was found at about 2:40 p.m. Saturday in the landscaped area of eastbound state Route 60 just east of the northbound I-215 transition.

The discovery came after the California Highway Patrol responded to the area about a report of someone jumping off the northbound I-215.

Responding CHP officers located a 2005 white Dodge Ram that was abandoned on the transition road. An officer looked over the transition road and spotted a man below on the embankment of the eastbound 60 freeway to the northbound I-215 transition road.

Officers made access to the man, but were unable to locate a pulse, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by responding firefighters.

The victim, identified as Knehans, was the registered owner of the abandoned Dodge and matched the description of the jumper that was provided by the initial reporting party, authorities said.
