MENIFEE, CA — Caltrans is continuing a $17.9 million pavement rehabilitation, broadband and safety improvement project on State Route 74 and the 215 Freeway, with lane closures and other traffic disruptions expected as construction progresses, the agency announced on Thursday.

The project is funded through Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and is intended to improve road conditions, safety and broadband connectivity along the highway, according to Caltrans.

Improvements include new rubberized hot-mix asphalt, upgraded crosswalks and bus pads, synchronized traffic signals, curb ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, and the installation of fiber-optic cables and broadband infrastructure.

Weather permitted, construction operations are scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Caltrans.

Motorists should expect single-lane and shoulder closures in both directions for striping, electrical and guardrail work. Intermittent traffic flagging and other traffic controls may also be in place throughout the corridor.

Work vehicles and construction crews will be entering and leaving shoulder areas. Pedestrian walkway closures may occur between Romoland and Homeland as crews complete the installation of pedestrian push buttons and fiber-optic electrical vaults.

Intermittent ramp closures are also expected at Bonnie Drive and the Interstate 215 off-ramp and on-ramp, as well as the northbound I-215 off-ramp, for striping and pavement marker installation.

Caltrans advised motorists and pedestrians to follow construction signage and observe posted traffic controls. The California Highway Patrol will enforce applicable traffic laws and regulations throughout the construction area to protect motorists, pedestrians and construction crews.
