Going Solar with HERO Funding for Riverside Residents

If you are a typical homeowner like me, you want to make energy efficient improvements to your home. Who doesn't want to save on their electric bills and go green at the same time? Unfortunately, most of us don't have tens of thousands of dollars at our disposal to invest in our homes; or do we? 

As a Riverside resident you are eligible for what is known as a Home Energy Renovation Opportunity (HERO for short). Unlike a credit card loan, this is a local government-sponsored program designed to improve homes through out the community. 

This is not a low-income-only program. It is available to Riverside residents in the following communities: Banning, Calimesa, Canyon Lake, Corona, Eastvale, Hemet, Jurupa Valley, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Moreno Valley, Murrieta, Norco, Perris, Riverside, San Jacinto, Temecula, Wildomar and unincorporated areas.

Qualifications:

• Current on property taxes for the prior twelve (12) months
• Property taxes have not been paid late more than once during the prior three (3) years
• No late payments on mortgage for the past twelve months
• No liens on the property
• No bankruptcy in the past seven years and property is not currently an assest in a bankruptcy proceeding
• Loan may not exceed 10% of the property’s market value
• Must have at least 10% equity in home
