Broadway Stars Coming to Murrieta

Youth 12 to college-age are invited to register for a summer theater workshop to be led by Broadway-acclaimed professionals.

Aspiring young talent can learn from and perform with Broadway-acclaimed actor Danny Gurwin, who in June is bringing his workshop to Murrieta.

The Danny Gurwin Master Class workshop is set for June 18-23 at It will culminate with a concert featuring workshop attendees and several guest artists.

Gurwin's Los Angeles credits include acts that have run in the Los Angeles Opera, The Pantages Theatre, The Laguna Playhouse and Moonlight. On Broadway, Gurwin has co-starred in "Little Women," "Urinetown," "The Full Monty," "The Scarlet Pimpernel," and "Kismet."

Gurwin is on faculty at American Musical and Drama Academy, Los Angeles, and has done guest artist residencies at several universities and colleges, as well as workshops and camps at The Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa and Making It On Broadway, Los Angeles.

Guest artists for the Murrieta workshop will include Terron Brooks, Lisa Datz and Deven May, professionals with experience on Broadway, TV and other venues. Debbie Prutsman and Gina Felicia have also signed on. (Guest artists are subject to change, according to organizers.)

Registration for the workshop is $200 if paid before April 30, and $250 if paid after. Classes will be separated by age groups, which are youth from 12 to 14, high school age and college.

The community is invited to the finale, "Celebration Broadway Concert," at 6:30 p.m. June 23 at Vista Murrieta High School. Tickets for the show are $25. Meet and greet tickets for after the show are $8 and include dinner.

Additionally, Gurwin will be featured at 7 p.m. June 21 in "A Night of Broadway." The public is invited to attend. Tickets are $25. For $50, guests gain entrance to a VIP meet and greet.

Malecki said while several youth who live outside of southwest Riverside County have signed on for the workshop, he hopes locals will take advantage of the opportunity, too.
