The Friends of the Murrieta Library look forward to seeing neighbors, friends and families as we return from our summer vacations and leisure reading time. The Friends are pleased to welcome a local author and business woman who has a passion for books and loves to write.“Miss April”, aka, April Vidal is a most popular, honored and sought after speaker. You won’t want to miss meeting her at the Friends gathering on Tuesday, September 15th at 1:00 pm in the Murrieta Library Lab Room (inside the library).This month the speaker will begin the program at 1:00 pm sharp.
 Since 1990, Miss April has been a cornerstone of the Murrieta Parks and Recreation, where her program, Miss April’s Dance has helped generations of children grow-not just as dancers, but as people. With over three decades of inspiring young dancers in Southern California, beloved dance educator Miss April is taking her life-shaping lessons from the studio to the page with the official launch of Miss April’s Dance Books, a new children’s book series that uses dance, movement, and storytelling to teach confidence, kindness, perseverance, and self-expression. Her books, “I Don’t Want To Go On Stage!” and “Waltzing Through The Years”, extend that mission, offering stories that meet children where they are emotionally, socially and creatively.
Miss April lives locally with her husband Darryl Vidal, a martial arts expert who was the stunt double for Pat Morita in the original “Karate Kid” and plays himself in the tournament scene against Johnny. Vidal was the Friends Guest Speaker September, 2025.
 You are invited to meet this outstanding local author, visit with new friends and neighbors and enjoy the lovely refreshments provided. The public and guests are invited. This month our speaker will begin at 1:00pm sharp.
Not only do the Friends of the Murrieta Library provide support to the Murrieta Public Library through fund-raising, advocacy and volunteerism, they promote awareness of and support for the Library as it serves the informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs of our Community. Their monthly meetings serve as a low-key cultural event for our local residents, providing the opportunity to meet, first hand, with established and published authors.

With a career spanning more than four decades, Irving Fernando Gomez
Flores has established himself as one of the most respected voices in contemporary Latin jazz. Born in Mexico and now based in San Diego, he has performed and collaborated with internationally recognized artists including Poncho Sánchez, Airto Moreira, and members of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, while contributing his talents as a composer, arranger, and educator. 
His acclaimed album Armando Mi Conga represents a powerful tribute to Afro-Cuban jazz traditions, blending intricate rhythms, melodic sophistication, and the improvisational spirit of jazz. August 2026 – TEMECULA, CA – The Nature Education Foundation at the Santa Rosa Plateau is proud to partner with Galway Downs for the 11th Annual Cowboy Jubilee, a signature fundraising event supporting nature education programs for students across Southwest Riverside County.
This year’s “Western and English” themed celebration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., inside the scenic Equestrian Grand Prix Arena at Galway Downs, surrounded by Temecula Valley’s rolling hills, vineyards, and wineries.
The evening blends the best of Western and English horsemanship traditions highlighting their distinct cultures, values, and riding techniques through music, food, language, and a shared work ethic.
Guests will be welcomed with complimentary champagne and treated to a Texas-style BBQ dinner, freshly prepared and served at the Grand Prix Outdoor Pavilion. The night’s entertainment includes a unique equestrian show with music and history presented by the Los Amigos and Southern California Peruvian Paso Horse Clubs.
Following the equestrian exhibitions, guests will dance the night away and enjoy the live classic country Highwayman Show with Tony Suraci and his eight member-band. 
The evening also features an open bar, a Poker Run, 50/50 raffle, and exclusive live auctions.

September is Peripheral Artery Disease Awareness Month, and board-certified vascular surgeon Dr. Pushpinder Sivia is urging Americans to pay attention to leg and foot symptoms that may be the body&rsquo;s version of a warning light.
Leg pain is easy to brush off. Maybe it is arthritis. Maybe you walked too much. Maybe you are simply getting older.
But pain that repeatedly appears while walking and improves with rest can be a sign of <a href="https://empirevein.com/en/vascular-services/peripheral-artery-disease/?utm_source=Patch_CV_&amp;utm_medium=PR_article&amp;utm_campaign=PAD_EN" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">peripheral artery disease, or PAD</a>, in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the legs.
More than 400 amputations occur every day in the United States as a result of PAD. An estimated 10 to 12 million Americans over age 40 have the disease, and many do not know it.
&ldquo;PAD is easy to miss because the symptoms can seem so ordinary,&rdquo; says <a href="https://empirevein.com/en/our-team/dr-pushpinder-sivia/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Dr. Pushpinder Sivia</a>, of Empire Vein &amp; Vascular Specialists. &ldquo;People blame arthritis, age or a muscle problem. But when the same symptoms keep happening with activity and improve with rest, that pattern matters.&rdquo;
The legs can act like the body&rsquo;s check-engine light: the warning may appear there even though the underlying problem involves circulation more broadly.
The Leg Pain That Should Get Your Attention
A classic sign of PAD is pain, cramping, aching, heaviness or fatigue in the calf, thigh or buttock that appears while walking and improves with rest.
When you walk, your muscles need more blood. If an artery is narrowed, blood flow may not keep up. When you stop, demand falls and the discomfort improves.
Other signs include one foot feeling colder, numbness or weakness, skin color changes, reduced hair growth, a slow-healing sore, or foot or leg pain at rest.
PAD Is Not Just About Your Legs
PAD is usually caused by atherosclerosis, the buildup of plaque inside the arteries. That same process can affect arteries supplying the heart and brain, raising the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Who Should Pay Extra Attention?
Risk is higher among people who smoke or used to smoke, have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney disease, heart or vascular disease, or are over age 50 with other risk factors.
Black adults have higher PAD rates and amputation risk, while underserved communities may face delays in diagnosis.
Take Off Your Socks
Take off your socks and look at your feet. Is one foot colder? Has the skin changed color? Is there a sore that will not heal? Do your calves hurt when you walk and improve when you stop?
The Test Can Be Surprisingly Simple
Checking for PAD may begin with an ankle-brachial index, or ABI, which compares blood pressure at the ankle with blood pressure in the arm. A significant difference can suggest reduced blood flow.

What Happens If PAD Is Found?
Treatment depends on severity. It may include exercise, smoking cessation, risk-factor control and medication.

Don&rsquo;t Ignore the Warning Light
&ldquo;Your legs can give you an early warning that there may be a circulation problem,&rdquo; Dr. Sivia says. &ldquo;The important thing is not to keep dismissing the same warning over and over.&rdquo;
During PAD Awareness Month, pay attention to the pattern. Look at your feet. Notice what happens when you walk. And if something keeps feeling wrong, get it checked.
We would never keep driving for months with the check-engine light on. We should not do it with our bodies, either.
