Coming Saturday: Free Rides for Youth and Students
Most college students and youth 18 and under to ride for free all year long

Free rides for youth and college students begins this weekend.
Beginning August 1, most college students and area youth will be able to ride Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) buses for free. The promotion grants free rides to any youth 18 and under as well as students at Cal Baptist University, La Sierra University, Moreno Valley College, Mt. San Jacinto College, Norco College, Riverside City College and UC Riverside.
The program, which is funded by a state grant, is expected to last until July 2021. RTA officials are hopeful that the free rides will propel declining ridership caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The free rides are also designed to raise awareness and remind students and parents that public transportation is an available option for their transportation needs. Long-term, the promotion is a way to establish continued bus ridership among students.
RTA has taken strong steps to maintain service and public safety during the coronavirus pandemic, including routinely disinfecting buses, requiring employees and customers to wear masks and practice social distancing while onboard.
“Whether it’s a trip to a friend’s house, part-time job or school, we are thrilled to offer this great incentive to our youngest customers,” said RTA Chair Bridgette Moore. “With helpful drivers and a safe environment — and now free rides — RTA is a great option for young travelers headed to destinations near and far.”
