Coroner IDs Pedestrian Killed Fatal Hemet Crash

The man was walking on Highway 74 in the area between Winchester Road and Truelson Avenue when he was struck Tuesday night.

HEMET, CA — The Riverside County Coroner's Bureau released the name of a pedestrian struck and killed in Hemet Tuesday night.

Richie Thomas, 63, died as a result of being struck by a vehicle near Winchester Road and Highway 74, according to the coroner's report.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department was called to the scene shortly after 6:45 p.m., where Thomas was found on the eastbound side of Highway 74, just west of Truelson Avenue.

"Emergency responders were unable to revive him," Cal Fire spokesperson Maggie De La Rosa told Patch.

Next of kin has been notified, leading to the coroner's report, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, and no further information was immediately available.
