Critically Injured Victim Freed From Smashed Vehicle In RivCo Morning Crash

Firefighters used the jaws of life to extract a victim from an early morning crash.

MEAD VALLEY, CA — One person was hospitalized with critical injuries after a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday in Mead Valley. The other person was not taken to the hospital as a result of the crash, according to Cal Fire spokesperson April Newman.

Shortly after 7 a.m., the cars collided at Markham Street and Harvill Avenue, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Two white vehicles struck one another, sustaining major damage. One of the vehicles struck a light pole, trapping a victim inside, Newman told Patch. No other injuries were reported at the scene.

"The patient required extrication and was taken to a hospital in critical condition," they said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
