Dangerous Driving In Murrieta: City Gets $115K Grant To Combat It

MURRIETA, CA — The Murrieta Police Department received a $115,000 grant to help continue funding crackdowns on dangerous drivers who cause serious injuries and deaths on city roads, the city announced Thursday.

With the dollars, “Our intent is to curtail the most unlawful and dangerous driving behaviors that put people at risk and create a safe environment for everyone traveling our roadways," Murrieta Police Department Chief Tony Conrad said.

According to the city, the grant — provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration — will provide additional programs and resources such as:

• DUI checkpoints and patrols;

• Distracted driving enforcement;

• Enforcement operations focused on the most dangerous driving behaviors that put cyclists and pedestrians at risk;

• Crackdowns on drivers who speed, fail to yield, run stop signs and red lights, and those who make unsafe turns and lane changes;

The grant will also help fund collaborative operations with neighboring law enforcement agencies and pay for Murrieta police training and/or recertification, according to the city.

“This grant funding allows us to support our continuing traffic safety efforts in the community,” Conrad said.
