Sheriff's officials say homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.

MENIFEE, CA — A man was found dead inside a Menifee home early Monday morning and now a murder investigation is underway, the sheriff's department says. According to officials, the man was found around 12:48 a.m. after they received an "assault with a deadly weapon" call.
Sheriff's Sgt. Walter Mendez says police were summoned to the 27700 block of Monroe Avenue, near I-215 and SR-74. It's not clear who made the call for help.
"Officers arrived and found an adult Hispanic male deceased inside the residence," Mendez said in a news release. "The Riverside Sheriff’s Department-Central Homicide Unit and Menifee Police detectives have assumed the investigation."
The man's identity is currently being withheld, pending notification of family, officials said.
