Detainee Found Dead at Murrieta Detention Center

It was not immediately made clear by deputies if the person was awaiting trial or already convicted.

A detainee died while in custody at a Murrieta jail, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported Sunday.

Jail personnel found an unresponsive person at 7:20 p.m. Friday in a holding cell of the Southwest Detention Center, said Sgt. Wallace Clear of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Paramedics and jail medical staff responded, but the person was pronounced dead.

The cause and mode of death were initially unknown, said Clear. The Sheriff’s Department was to release the person’s identity information pending a coroner’s investigation, said Clear.

It was not immediately made clear by deputies if the person was awaiting trial or already convicted, and the gender was not released.
