DUI Checkpoint Planned In Murrieta This Weekend: What To Know

MURRIETA, CA — The Murrieta Police Department has planned a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint from 7 p.m. to midnight on Friday in the City of Murrieta.

Police will set up the checkpoint at an undisclosed location to monitor for drivers who appear to be intoxicated. Though impairment is not solely alcohol related, the Murrieta Police Department said.

"Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal."

Where the checkpoint will be located will not be disclosed, but will be determined based on data on impaired-driving-related crashes within the city, according to the Murrieta police.

The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road. Prevention measures like this reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads and significantly improve traffic safety.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
