Fiery, Deadly Crash Reported Off Winchester Road [UPDATED]

FRENCH VALLEY, CA — One person is dead and another hurt following a collision in a Winchester Road intersection Sunday evening. The crash involved a motorcycle and a passenger van — both of which caught fire following the incident, according to witnesses on scene.
The crash was reported at 5:43 p.m. at Scott and Winchester (SR-79) roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire responded to the scene to assist, but one person died at the location. Another person had minor injuries, officials report.
Witnesses say the motorcyclist collided with the van in the intersection, but due to the impact of the crash, both vehicles left the roadway.

As of 6:30 p.m. Sunday, CHP was diverting traffic in the area while the investigation was underway and the road cleared.
About an hour after the original incident occurred, another unrelated crash happened near the blocked off intersection, according to CHP logs. That wreck involved a Honda and Dodge sedan, but no injuries were reported.
