Firefighters Battle Murrieta Blaze: PHOTOS

Crews from Murrieta Fire & Rescue and the Riverside County Fire Department were sent to the scene on Monday.

MURRIETA, CA — Fire officials battled a brush fire in the Murrieta area Monday afternoon, according to Murrieta Fire & Rescue. The fire was reported around 2:06 p.m. in the area of Adams Avenue and Corporate Center Court (see map below) and burned for more than an hour before crews got a handle on it.

Officials said the blaze was approximately a half acre when they arrived at the scene. The fire burned through heavy brush with a "moderate rate of spread."

By 3:15 p.m., crews reported that the blaze had been knocked down.

"Crews are in mop-up at this time," officials said.

Murrieta police said they were also at the scene, and requested that residents avoid the area if possible.

There was no word on what sparked the fire.
