MURRIETA, CA – As the City of Murrieta faces a deficit of several million dollars in coming fiscal years due to funding for safety programs and city services that reportedly has not kept up with community growth, officials are turning to the public for input on a proposed sales tax.

One revenue option to close the budget gap being considered by city council and staff is a one‑cent sales tax to be placed on the November 2018 ballot, officials said, adding that an online survey is available for locals to weigh in on prioritizing city services.

"Developing a plan for the future of Murrieta should be a community-driven process and we hope that you will join the conversation," city officials said. "Please rate the importance of the following funding priorities, which could be supported by locally-controlled sales tax funding."
