Hours-Long Standoff in French Valley Continues Into Nightfall

Nearby residents were forced to evacuate.

FRENCH VALLEY, CA— A large police presence was stationed in a French Valley neighborhood for several hours Wednesday as a standoff continued into the night forcing nearby residents out of their homes, police tell Patch.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, it all started around 11:07 a.m. when authorities got a call for a domestic dispute in the 35100 block of Nightingale Street. That's near the area of Leon and Max Gilliss.

"During the course of the investigation, deputies confirmed the male suspect is barricaded within the residence and is alone," a sheriff's statement sent to Patch at 8 p.m. states. "At this time, the Sheriff’s Department is working to resolve the situation peaceable."

"As a precautionary measure, residents in adjacent homes are being asked to evacuate," sheriff's officials said.
