How Much Will ObamaCare Cost If You Don't Have Insurance?

For those who are already receiving health care benefits under an employer, Jan. 1, 2014 probably doesn’t mean much. Nor does the date mean much to Medicare recipients.

But for those who don’t have health care insurance today, Jan. 1 looms large because under the Affordable Care Act -- otherwise known as ObamaCare -- the date marks the time in which virtually all uninsured Americans will have to obtain health care coverage.

What will purchasing health care insurance cost you? While there are many insurance companies out there to shop from, many states are offering "exchanges" that also let you buy coverage. California is among the states offering such a program and it's called Covered California.

To help Americans find a plan that best suits their needs, the Kaiser Family Foundation has developed an online tool that calculates what an individual or family can expect to pay for various plans under state-based systems, including Covered California.
