We are proud to announce that i-Care Urgent Care is now offering ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) for athletes of all levels as a part of our Sports Medicine clinic. ImPACT is used as a tool for a physician to assess symptoms and diagnose concussion. It is the most widely used and most scientifically validated concussion evaluation system. ImPACT provides clinicians with invaluable information that can help take the guesswork out of concussion management and promote safe return-to-play decisions for athletes.
We are excited to offer free baseline testing to the first 100 MVUSD students who call the clinic to schedule a testing time. Students take a 20-minute computer test that has been scientifically validated to measure the effects of sports-related concussion. This pre-season/pre-injury test establishes a baseline for the athlete. If a concussion is suspected during the season, a follow-up test is administered to see if the results have changed from the baseline. This comparison helps the physician diagnose and manage the concussion. Follow-up tests can be administered over days or weeks so physicians can continue to track the athlete’s recovery from the injury.
ImPACT is currently used by the NFL, NHL, Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, Cirque de Soleil, US Military Academies, USA Ski Team, and USA Rugby to name just a few.
