Life

Life.

It happens.  Some days life is carefree and other days, not so much.

This last Friday was one of those days.  I was “inconvenienced” by a broken down car, dropped off dad, kiddo #1 and then kiddo #2,  coffee with the girls, off to work, then pickup in reverse later that day.  I tried to think of all the things I have to be thankful for but . .

Grabbed #2 from school, then the dad and I had to sit a line of cars a block long because of a fatality that morning that they were still cleaning up.  #2 in the back seat got the lecture on being careful when walking . . . I thought about the person who was killed.

Questions.

Was the woman a mom?  How did it happen?  What about the man who hit her?

On the way home, I got very quiet and choked up.  Thinking.  We drove home the rest of the way in silence.  We were a block from home when I saw parked cars had lined the street on both sides.  In the center of the road lay the small lifeless body, a bike and a helmet.  The young boy, moving no more, lay there.  In that moment the inconveniences of life were gone. My instinct as a mom compelled me to run to him. The only thought I had was to hold him, his hand, his back so somehow he would know he was not alone.  Two others beside me prayed.  I checked for a pulse but there was none.

The ambulance arrived, the police, then the paramedics.

Life is but an instant.  This life and what we choose to do with it is in the power of our hands.  Do we bring joy to others?  Encouragement?  Kindness to strangers?  Believe me, I fail, daily.  But, I don’t let it stop me from trying.

Life.  This boy’s life was full at 13 years old, he passed into eternity.  For a moment…this moment…I connected with that and it changed me. Will it change you?

How will it change you?

Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
