A two-vehicle collision on Sunday left debris in the roadway and sparked a car fire at a heavily trafficked Murrieta intersection.

MURRIETA, CA — A two-vehicle collision in Murrieta prompted police to close the Clinton Keith at California Oaks intersection in both directions Sunday afternoon, the Murrieta Police Department said on Facebook. One vehicle with major damage also caught fire, according to reports from the scene.

"Please avoid the area and use alternate routes until further notice," police said.

First responders were dispatched at 3:16 p.m. to the crash that damaged a traffic light and left significant debris in the roadway. Officers were re-routing drivers through a residential neighborhood to avoid the crash site.

The collision is under investigation and it was not immediately known whether anyone was injured.
