Man Accused Of Stealing Car From Alleged Turpin Torture House

A convicted felon is accused of stealing a VW from the now-infamous Turpin residence.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A convicted felon, suspected of stealing a vehicle belonging to the Perris couple who face a raft of felony charges for allegedly imprisoning and starving their children, was out of custody Friday.

Mathew Stewart Wall, 29, of Menifee was arrested Thursday on suspicion of receiving a stolen vehicle.

He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, but posted a $10,000 bond and was released a few hours later.

According to Riverside County sheriff's officials, a vehicle was stolen from the home of David and Louise Turpin on Muir Woods Road in the predawn hours Thursday.

The theft of the 2016 Volkswagen compact sedan occurred one day after a vehicle was burglarized at the property, though deputies did not say if the Volkswagen or one of the other two vehicles parked at the house was targeted in that burglary.

According to Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback, at about 2:45 a.m. Thursday, patrolmen on the west side of the city received a LoJack alert indicating the presence of a stolen vehicle nearby.

Railsback said the officers isolated the LoJack signal to the Volkswagen that was parked in the 4800 block of Van Buren Boulevard, in front of a veterinary office.

Wall allegedly was sitting in the driver's seat, and he was taken into custody without a struggle.

According to court records, he has prior convictions for drug- and theft-related offenses.

The Turpins are slated to make another court appearance on Feb. 23 at the Riverside Hall of Justice. Both are being held in lieu of $12 million bail at the Robert Presley Jail.

The couple have been under the national spotlight since they were arrested and charged last month for allegedly forcing 12 of their 13 children to live in inhumane conditions and suffer sadistic abuse for years.
