Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Shooting At Vehicle In RivCo: Sheriff

The suspect was located and taken into custody the day after the shooting, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

HEMET, CA — A 21-year-old Hemet man was arrested on Thursday for shooting at a vehicle, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies responded to a shooting around 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday near the 25000 block of Florida Avenue, where they learned the victim was inside of a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire, authorities said.

The victim was not injured, authorities said.

Deputies searched the area but did not find the suspect. During the investigation, authorities identified the suspect as Juan Carlos Zambrano.

Deputies located Zambrano on Thursday near Mountain Avenue and Old Mountain Avenue in Hemet. During the investigation, deputies also served a search warrant at a location in the 43000 block of Palm Avenue where evidence was collected, including from Zambrano's vehicle, authorities said.

Zambrano was arrested and booked at the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, and willfully discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

According to jail records on Monday, Zambrano was no longer in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court at Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta on April 10.

Authorities said an investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information about the incident to contact Deputy Matthew Zepeda at the Hemet Sheriff’s Station at 951-791–3400.
