Man Killed By Police In Murrieta During Dispute

Police forced entry into an apartment in Murrieta on Wednesday night after reports of domestic violence and hearing sounds of distress.

MURRIETA, CA — A man was fatally shot by police in Murrieta on Wednesday night after authorities received a 911 call reporting domestic violence.

At 11:51 p.m., police forced entry into a unit at the Pacific Landing Apartments at 36125 Creighton Ave. After getting into the apartment, police were faced with a man armed with a handgun, the Murrieta Police Department reported.

During the encounter, police shot the man. Officers rendered medical aid to the 57-year-old until paramedics arrived and took him to Inland Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

His identity has not been released by officials pending the notification of his family.

The officers involved were not injured but will be placed on administrative leave, per department policy. Their identities were not released, officials said.
