Man Steals Cash, Lotto Tickets In Murrieta Robbery: Police

Police say the local gang task force helped catch the accused robber.

MURRIETA, CA — A man accused of robbing a Murrieta business last month has been caught and jailed, Murrieta police announced Thursday. The Perris man is accused of stealing not only cash during the hold-up, but also taking lottery tickets.

The incident happened back on June 29 at 3 a.m. at a business on California Oaks Road, according to Murrieta Police Sgt. Steve Dyer. Murrieta police started investigating the case right away, but the Murrieta-Temecula Regional Gang Task Force took over the investigation "several days later."

The gang task force soon pegged 21-year-old Marcos Antonio Hernandez as the suspect in the case, according to Dyer.

"Marcos was also a documented criminal street gang member," Dyer said.

Last Friday, the Region 6 Gang Task Force, sheriff's Perris station investigators, a Temecula POP team officer, and Murrieta police officers joined together to serve a search warrant in Perris in connection to the case, according to Dyer.

"Marcos was eventually arrested without incident in front of the address," Dyer said. "Officer's located evidence at his residence related to the Murrieta robbery."

Hernandez was booked into the French Valley jail on suspicion of second degree robbery and his bail was set at $105,000, records show. He's scheduled to appear in court on July 26.
